Our Lady Of Bologna

Country : Italy

Year : 1193

An image that has made its church at Bologna one of the most famous shrines in Italy, is that of Our Lady of Bologna.  It came originally from Constantinople and belonged to some hernitesses who in 1193 built a chapel for it.  The icon was attributed to St. Luke.

At Rogationtide every year it is carried to the cathedral of Bologna, and there displayed for the veneration of the people.

This or one like it, was one of the two or three representations of Mary that St. Bernadette did not find disappointing or worse.
